Bloggers: The Best of Nordic Reads 2016 – Finland

We have asked some of our blogging friends to share their Nordic favorites of 2016. Today we have two Finnish bloggers who share their favorite reads with us.

Mari from Kirjakko Ruispellossa

Mari’s favourite books in 2016 were Marja-Leena Tianen: Tatu, Iiris ja Pääkallomies and Siri Kolu: Kesän jälkeen kaikki on toisin.

This is what she said about Tatu, Iiris ja Pääkallomies:

This novel from Tiainen is written in plain language so it has readers in much more wider range than an average youth novel. Like I wrote in my blog, the novel deals with violence and threat with casual and easy way. Although the novel is written in plain language there’s still deepness in it and it gives you something to think about.

This is what she said about Kesän jälkeen kaikki on toisin:

The novel by Kolu offers you new views and even though the novel is thin it’s heavy read for youths and adults.

Krista from Lukutoukan kulttuuriblogi

Krista’s favourite books of 2016 were Jessica Schiefauer: Ester & Isak and also Siri Kolu: Kesän jälkeen kaikki on toisin.

This is what she said about Kesän jälkeen kaikki on toisin:

Siri Kolu didn’t choose the easiest way when she wrote youth novel about transgenderism. And yes, she succeeded perfectly in this, she wrote touching and genuine novel which has captivated hearts from here and there. It’s well written, serious, but it’s still slightly light-hearted youth novel which you can’t read without crying.

This is what she said about Ester & Isak:

Ester & Isak was psychologically strong, maybe even severe youth novel which left its mark. After finishing the novel, the story of Ester and Isak stuck in my mind for a long time and it made me see Schiefauer in a new light as an author. Fine, fine youth novel which I can recommend for adults too!
